The Milkmaid Story Summary
Once upon a time, there was
a young milkmaid who lived in a small village. Every morning, she would wake up early to
milk the cow and carry the fresh milk to the market to sell. One sunny day, she placed a
large jug of milk on her head and set off for the market. As she walked along the path, she
began to daydream about what she could do with the money she would earn from selling
the milk. "With the money I get, I will buy a hundred chicks," she thought happily. "I will
raise them until they are grown, and then I can sell them at a good price." She continued to
dream, "With that money, I will buy two young goats. I will let them graze on the grass
near my house, and when they are big, I can sell them for an even better price. Soon, I will
be able to buy another cow, and I will have even more milk to sell." Lost in her happy
thoughts, the milkmaid started skipping and jumping with joy. Suddenly, she tripped over a
small stone and fell to the ground. The jug broke, and all the milk spilled out onto the dirt.
The milkmaid sat up and saw the mess around her. Her dreams of chicks, goats, and a new
cow vanished with the spilled milk. She realized that her excitement and daydreaming had
led her to lose everything she had. From that day on, the milkmaid learned a valuable
lesson: do not count your chickens before they are hatched. She understood the importance
of focusing on the present and being careful with what she had, instead of daydreaming
about things that hadn't happened yet.
The moral of the story is clear: Do not count your chickens before they are hatched.
Plan wisely and be responsible with what you have.
