fairness short stories - The Golden Apple |
In a peaceful village, there was a large, ancient tree that bore a single golden apple each year. The apple was said to bring good fortune to whoever possessed it. As the time for the apple to ripen approached, the villagers held a meeting to decide who should receive it.
The mayor suggested that the apple should go to the wealthiest family, as they had done the most for the village. However, an old woman spoke up. "The wealthiest have enough already. The apple should go to the poorest family to bring them hope and change their fortunes."
A debate ensued, but before a decision was made, a young boy stood up. "Why not have a contest of fairness? Let everyone participate, regardless of wealth or status. Whoever wins can have the apple."
The villagers agreed, and they held a contest that tested honesty, kindness, and fairness. In the end, it was a humble farmer who won by showing the most fairness to his fellow competitors. The golden apple was his, but he chose to share it with the village, ensuring everyone benefited.

The just king |
The Just King
Long ago, there was a king known far and wide for his sense of justice. One day, two men came to his court, each claiming ownership of a beautiful white horse. Both had convincing stories, and there was no clear evidence of who the rightful owner was.
The king thought for a moment and then said, "I will cut the horse in half, so each of you may have an equal share."
The first man agreed, saying it was a fair solution. But the second man cried out, "No! Let him have the horse. I cannot bear to see it harmed."
The king smiled, for he had found the true owner. He gave the horse to the second man, knowing that only the true owner would care more for the horse's life than for his own gain.

The two neighbors |
In a small town, two neighbors had a dispute over a piece of land. Each claimed that the land belonged to them, and they couldn't come to an agreement. Tired of arguing, they decided to take their case to the wise village elder.
The elder listened to both sides carefully. After thinking for a while, he asked them to bring a loaf of bread. He then divided the bread into two parts, one slightly larger than the other. He told the first neighbor to choose a piece, and the second neighbor would get the remaining piece.
The first neighbor hesitated, realizing that whichever piece he chose, it would reflect his true character. If he took the larger piece, it would show his greed. He then decided to take the smaller piece, knowing it was fairer.
The second neighbor was pleased with the larger piece and thanked the first neighbor. The elder smiled, knowing that fairness had been restored between them.
