She looked perfect online… but reality told a different story.

Girl Lives a Fake Life on Social Media – A Short Story on Truth Behind Filters
Story: Girl Lives a Fake Life on Social Media

Riya Kapoor, 19, was the perfect girl on Instagram.
Her feed was full of colorful café shots, sunset yoga, aesthetic books, and selfies that seemed to glow. She had over 82,000 followers, all commenting things like “Goals 😍”, “Queen 👑”, and “Wish I had your life!”
But no one saw what happened after she logged out.
Riya's room was always dark. The smile in her posts disappeared the moment the camera stopped. Her designer clothes were all borrowed. The "vacation" in Goa was just a trip to a friend’s rooftop with a filter slapped on it.
She barely slept. Most nights, she cried silently, exhausted by the pressure of pretending. Her real friends had stopped calling. Her grades had dropped. Her parents didn’t understand why she was always anxious.
One day, she posted nothing.
No story. No reel. No caption.
A week passed. Then a post appeared —
A picture of Riya, no makeup, no filter, sitting cross-legged on her bed.
Caption:
"Hi. I'm tired of pretending. This is me — the real me. Not perfect, not rich, not always happy. Just human. And that’s enough."
The likes were fewer.
But for the first time, she felt free.
