The Clever Monkey and the Hungry Crocodile
Once upon a time, in a lush green forest, there lived a clever monkey named Max. Max loved to jump from tree to tree and eat juicy fruits. He lived near a river, which was home to a hungry crocodile named Carl. Carl often watched Max from the water, thinking about how delicious the monkey might be.
One day, Carl decided to befriend Max. He swam up to the riverbank and called out, "Hello, Max! Would you like to be my friend?" Max, being friendly and polite, agreed. They started talking every day, and soon, they became good friends.
One afternoon, Carl invited Max to visit his home across the river. "I have some delicious fruits at my place," said Carl. "Come and have lunch with me." Max was excited but also a little cautious. He had never been to Carl's home before.
Max jumped onto Carl's back, and they started crossing the river. When they reached the middle of the river, Carl couldn't keep his secret any longer. "Max," he said, "I must tell you the truth. I want to eat you for my lunch."
Max was shocked but quickly thought of a plan. He pretended to be calm and said, "Oh, Carl! Why didn't you tell me earlier? I left my heart back on the tree. If you want to eat me, you'll need my heart. Let's go back, and I will get it for you."
Carl, not the brightest, believed Max and turned back towards the riverbank. As soon as they reached the shore, Max quickly jumped off Carl's back and climbed up the nearest tree. From the safety of the branches, Max called down, "Oh, Carl! You silly crocodile! Don't you know that my heart is inside me? You won't trick me again."
Carl felt ashamed and swam away, realizing he had lost a good friend. Max was happy to be safe and learned a valuable lesson. He knew now that he had to be careful about whom to trust.
From that day on, Max always thought before making decisions, and he remained the cleverest monkey in the forest.
