A Heartbreaking Tale of One-Sided Love

A Short Story of Silent Love and Letting Go

I was there when your eyes sparkled at someone else.
I smiled while hiding the storm inside me.
I was the one who remembered your coffee order, your favorite songs, the way you scrunched your nose when confused.
But I was never the one.

You called me your “best friend.”
You said I was the person who understood you the most.
You ran to me when your heart was broken—by them.
And I stayed… like I always did.

You never noticed how I flinched when you spoke about them.
How I changed the topic just to protect my heart.
Or how I paused before replying, scared my voice would betray the tears.

But I knew my role.
I was just a character in your love story.
The one who cheered for you from the shadows.
The one who loved you silently, deeply… truly.
I don’t hate you for not loving me back.
But sometimes, I wish you had looked at me the way I looked at you.

Now, I’m walking away—not because I’ve stopped loving you,
But because I deserve to be the main character in someone’s story too.
